NEW OFFENSIVE: Syrian Army ELIMINATES More Than 270 ISIS Terrorists

DAMASCUS, Syria – The Syrian army has wiped out more than 270 fighters ISIS terrorist fighters in southern As-Suwayda province, said the representative of the Russian troops in Syria, Oleg Makarevich.

He said the offensive took place under difficult weather conditions and on very rugged terrain, with deep canyons, caves and vertical slopes.

“The enemy created a multilevel defense, well prepared, full of anti-tank and sniper traps, minefields, and pathways for maneuvers. Throughout the area, the enemy had warehouses with weapons and food,” said Makarevich .

According to him, the operation was also hampered by the fact that tank and heavy equipment movement was limited in the area, while the terrorists possessed many grenade launchers, anti-tank missiles and 82mm lance.

Despite the obstacles, the Syrian military managed to capture many weapons, including 12 American anti-tank missiles, TOW.

The Russian military detailed that most of the terrorists had arrived in As-Suwaydad province from the Palestinian refugee camp of Yarmouk, Damascus and the Al-Tanf region, controlled by the US-led international coalition.

Earlier, Syrian government troops reportedly liberated al-Safa hills in As-Suwayda province, 92 kilometers from Damascus, on November 17, taking control of the last bastion that ISIS controlled in the south of the country.

According to the Syrian news agency SANA, the leader of ISIS in southern Syria, Hadir al-Shishani, was killed during the offensive.

Military expert Viktor Murakhovsky explained the significance of the fighting in As-Suwayda and the importance of that victory.

“The fighters arrived on the As-Suwayda plateau were not only from the US-controlled Al-Tanf region, but also from the eastern bank of the Euphrates River as well as from the regions near the border with Iraq. The creating of a major Daesh [ISIS] center in As-Suwayda failed thanks to the efforts of the Russian Aerospace Force and Syrian government troops,” he said.

According to him, the fact that the US sponsor terrorists in Syria has not been a secret for a long time. In As-Suwayda, another proof of this patronage was obtained: along with the combatants, the Syrian Army found US-made TOW anti-tank missiles.

The Americans allegedly supplied these missiles to the moderate Syrian opposition, but we see once again that this “moderate opposition” was after all radical Islamists, the analyst said.
