Ishchenko: Kiev Hoped That Russian Naval Forces Would Kill Ukraine’s Trespassing Sailors

Kiev hoped that its sailors were going to be killed by Russian naval forces, in order for the provocation to be ‘complete’, according to both a retired Ukrainian general of repute, as well as analyst and writer Ishchenko.

Instead these hopes were dashed, and met with disappointment instead, as the trespassing sailors were treated more like teenage boys who hopped a fence and stole his forgiving neighbor’s apples. – ed, J. Flores

Retired Ukrainian Army General Mykola Malomuzh, and former head of the Foreign Intelligence Service, said that Kiev had “set up” their sailors in a situation with border violations in the Kerch Strait. Political analyst Rostislav Ishchenko confirmed that he is sure that this is true. Ishchenko shared his opinion with the radio Sputnik.

The sailors who violated the Russian border in the Kerch Strait and were detained by the FSB border guard, had been “set up” the authorities in Kiev, according to  Malomuzh , in an interview with Politeka .

According to him, the ships of the Ukrainian Navy entered the territory, which is controlled by Russia, and there were no other scenarios for the development of events, except for the arrest of violators using weapons. If the Ukrainian authorities deliberately chose this route and method for its ships, this is a “big crime,” he added.

On radio Sputnik, the president of the Center for Systems Analysis and Forecasting, Rostislav Ischenko, expressed his view on the situation:

“Of course, the sailors were framed because, by and large, they could have been killed. We should not forget that although they were small boats, they are still an armed part of the Ukrainian Navy. Ukraine claims that it is at war with Russia, the Ukrainian officials, not only at the level of deputies, but also at the level of generals, stated that the Crimean Bridge should be blown up. And even though it was a small squadron floating towards the Crimean Bridge, nevertheless its a squadron invading Russia’s territorial waters without reacting to appeals; in this situation its likely to assume they would just drown I think, Poroshenko counting on that course, he primarily looked to sacrifice the sailors’

On the morning of November 25, the Ukrainian warships Berdyansk, Nikopol and Yana Kapu crossed the state border of Russia, violating Articles 19 and 21 of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.The ships entered the temporarily closed Russian waters and carried out dangerous maneuvers for several hours without responding to the demands of the Russian border guards.

All three ships were detained approximately 20 kilometers from the Russian coast and 50 kilometers south-west of the usual passage of ships along the Kerch Strait under the Crimean bridge.

On Tuesday, the court arrested 15 of the 24 sailors who were on Ukrainian ships.
