The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that chemical weapons in Syria were produced by terrorists and that the equipment for their manufacture comes from Western European countries.
“There are materials that really deserve not only to be talked about today, but also to be shown. In particular, to the left of me and to your right, is that equipment whose leaks took place a few days ago and is seen in the city of Douma,” said Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a joint briefing with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
She added that such professional equipment “unfortunately” was produced in Western European countries.
In turn, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that during the investigation of chemical incidents in Syria, stringent procedures to preserve the evidence were violated by those who are meant to inspect the items and be neutral.
Igor Kirillov, commander of the Chemical, Biological and Radiological Protection Troops, said the mission tasked with investigating the use of chemical weapons in Syria tried to delay the investigation in any way, which serves the interests of the United States and its allies.
“The mission tries every way to delay the investigation deadlines, which corresponds to the interests of the US and its allies,” he said.
Moreover, the Russian Ministry of Defense has accused the White Helmets of falsifying the samples delivered to the investigation of the alleged chemical weapons incident in Saraqib.
On April 14, the United States, Britain and France bombed a number of Syrian government structures that they said were used to produce chemical weapons without providing any evidence. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the attacks an aggression against a sovereign state. However, neither the Russian military experts nor the locals confirmed that there had been any chemical incident, which served as a pretext for the attacks. The US also ultimately failed to offer any evidence.
