A funeral was held on Thursday in Afrin for victims of those killed in Turkey’s Operation ‘Olive Branch’ offensive, including one civilian and 23 fighters belonging to the People’s Protection Units (YPG).
“The martyrs are ours, the martyrs are immortal, they are all our children, we will die for this homeland, this is our homeland, Afrin is our land, and we will die for this land,” said one attendee at the funeral.
According to local officials, the total civilian death toll in Afrin is close to 200.
On Saturday, the UN approved a 30-day ceasefire resolution in order to allow aid to reach the most stricken areas of Syria. However, Erdogan has said that the ceasefire does not apply to Afrin and has rejected calls from Western powers to suspend his offensive.
