New sanctions against Russia will be introduced within a week, said US National Intelligence Director Dan Coates; Mnuchin agrees.
During hearings in the Senate a question about why the new sanctions related to Russia’s interference in the elections have not yet been actualised, the head of the US Treasury, Stephen Mnuchin confirmed, ” the will be announced within a week.”
He explained that the restrictions will affect at least a few of the 13 Russians whose names are mentioned in the indictment presented by the special prosecutor Robert Mueller.
At the end of February, Mueller put forward a case against the Russians, among whom is businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, accusing him of organizing a campaign against presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in social networks. Previously, the US Treasury said it was preparing new restrictions on Russia. “We are working on sanctions against Russia. We cooperate with the FBI to provide us with the necessary information,” Mnuchin said.
13 citizens of Russia and three legal entities, including the so-called “troll factory” from St. Petersburg, are accused of interfering in the presidential campaign.
