IDLIB, Syria – Russian airstrikes have shown no mercy and smashed terrorist positions in a town in the jihadist-held northwest province of Syria’s Idlib.
Russian airstrikes targeted the town of Jisr al-Shogur, the stronghold of the Uighur Turkestan Islamic Party (TIP). The TIP is a terrorist organization affiliated with Al-Qaeda and comprises virtually entirely of Uighurs from Xinjiang province in western China.
The Uighurs, unlike the majority of China’s Han population, are a Turkic ethnic group directly related to other Turkic peoples like the Kazakhs, Uzbeks and Turks.
They have played a major role in Idlib and are fiercely aligned with the Al-Nusra Front. The TIP are mostly centered around the town of Jisr al-Shogur where thousands of them reside with their families.
It is not known at this moment which targets the Russian warplanes targeted or how many militants were killed in the resulting attack.
