US special services accuse Russia of interfering in the upcoming Congress elections

    February 13, 2018 - FRN -

Leaders of the leading US intelligence agencies have stated that they had registered attempts by Russia to intervene in the upcoming November 2018 elections to the US Congress.

On Tuesday, CIA Director Mike Pompeo, Director of the National Security Agency Mike Rogers and US National Intelligence Director Daniel Coates spoke at a hearing in the Senate Intelligence Committee. The leaders were asked if they witnessed Russia's attempts to influence the upcoming elections - all three answered in the affirmative.

At the same time, the heads of special services refused to provide details, promising to do so in a closed part of the hearings.

Russia has repeatedly refuted accusations of trying to influence elections in different countries, and presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov called them "absolutely unsubstantiated." Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that there are no facts confirming such interference.

Russian President Vladimir Putin drew attention to the fact that it is the United States that interferes in foreign political processes around the world. For Russia, it does not make any sense.
