At the end of January, the scheduled meeting of Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov took place with State Department representative for Ukraine Kurt Volcker. As a result of the meeting, Volcker said that he had discussed the issue of deploying peacekeepers with his Russian counterpart Vladislav Surkov, but stressed that there were no specifics on this issue yet. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Klimkin later said that Ukraine was disappointed by the lack of progress resulting from the meeting. Russia has repeatedly stated the unacceptability of the American version of peacekeeper deployment in the Donbass. Nevertheless, Ukraine and the United States continue to insist on it. The candidate in historical sciences, political scientist, and publicist Stanislav Khatuntsev commented on the situation for the Novorossia news agency.
“I would like to hope that Ukraine has nothing to count on, and the US version of a peacekeepers project will not be agreed on. The maximum — UN security for the OSCE, that’s it. Russia can be reconciled with this.
“But if the option is the same as in Yugoslavia, that is peacekeeping battalions – the Dutch, the Danes and others, under which they slaughtered Serbs, and not just Serbs … They turned their backs, and then acted as “witnesses.” This is, of course, an extremely nasty option. It would very much suit Ukraine, but not us,” the expert said.
According to him, the diplomatic option for the conflict in the Donbass will not lead to its end, so “sooner or later another option will win out.”
“Here, only the surgical route is needed: Puncture it and and release this pus. That is, the spread of the accumulated military potential of Ukraine, the complete rout of that Ukrainian army, which stands on the fronts of Novorossia. That is such a wide version of “08.08.08”.* I hope that some time will come and this option will be implemented,” Khatuntsev said.
He added that the necessary condition for resolving the conflict in Donbass and Novorossia is the civilizational geopolitics on the part of Russia.
“Novorossia is part of the large civilizational Russian space. South and east of Ukraine, Crimea … This is our common home, our security sphere, our people and our lands in the end. Accordingly, we have the right, and we are obliged not just to influence our civilizational space, but to be absolutely the main force there,” the interviewee told the Novorossia news agency.
“Russia must act on its civilizational territories, which are to a large extent limit-free, as the United States operates around the world, taking into account its own interests. The way France works in Africa, how Israel works on its borders and around them, and how even Turkey works. For example, in Afrin,” he added.
“Well, naturally, there must be movements, formations, leaders, organizations, structures, institutions that express Russia in the territory of our civilization space,” the political scientist stated.
