AFRIN, Syria – Turkish Armed Forces casualties are beginning to mountain as two Turkish soldiers were killed in action and another 11 soldiers wounded yesterday.
The casualties came from a Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) anti-tank missile and mortar attack as battles rage on in the Afrin canton of northwest Syria.
This brings the total of Turkish soldiers killed to 18, with 73 wounded in battles against the YPG since the Turkish-led “Olive Branch Operation” was launched on January 20.
Olive Branch was launched so that Turkish-led forces, including their Syrian proxies, could remove the YPG from the Syria-Turkey border as Ankara considers the militia to be a terrorist organization.
