Oleksandr Turchynov, secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, reports that negotiations with the United States on the provision of Javelin antitank missile systems to Kiev continue, but Ukraine has not received any yet.
“I have been asking for four years how this cooperation is progressing. I say cooperation is advancing, but there is still no weapon. And, unfortunately, there is much more talk about this than concrete steps,” Turchynov told journalists after the opening of the Center for Responding to Cyber Threats.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council stressed that he could say that the weapon has been received, “only after I have taken it in my hands.”
“While everyone is “for,” everyone says it, everyone supports it, but I have not seen a single Javelin in Ukraine. I hope it will happen in the near future. But I have been hoping for this since March 2014,” Turchinov said.
Earlier, the chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Muzhenko ordered preparations to begin for the operation and adoption of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.
Recall that in December, the administration of US President Donald Trump approved the sale of “lethal defensive weapons” to Ukraine, but without the Javelin anti-tank missiles.
Spokesman for Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said that the supply of lethal weapons to Ukraine could warm up the “hotheads” of nationalists who seek bloodshed in the Donbass.
Note that even on November 22, the director of the American arms manufacturer AirTronic USA, Richard Wendiver, admitted supplying grenade launchers to Ukraine.
On January 9, leading researcher of the BellingCat project on Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Arik Toler, stated that the Ukrainian troops of the Azov regiment, banned in the Russian Federation, had already received lethal weapons from the United States in the Donbass. Later he drew attention to the fact that after his report that “Azov” had long been using US lethal weapons from in the Donbass, photos confirming it had disappeared from the site of the battalion.
In January this year, the General Staff of Ukraine reported that the AFU will receive from the US not Javelins, but TOWs. Later it became known that Ukrainian Javelin operators will be trained abroad.
