TAIZ, Yemen – Thousands of people flooded Taiz’s streets in southwestern Yemen on Sunday to celebrate the sixth anniversary of the revolution which ended over 30 years of President Ali Abdullah Saleh’s internationally recognized rule.
The uprising initially started alongside the Arab Spring in early 2011 and by February 2012, Saleh had been removed from office.
Many could be seen waving Yemeni flags and holding banners as the lined the city’s main avenues.
One of those celebrating, Abdul Khaliq Saif, claimed that people wanted to convey a “message of the city’s adherence to legitimacy and to complete the liberation of Taiz.”
