The Ministry of Defense of Russia has announced that the the Iskander-M missile systems in North Ossetia and the Kaliningrad region are ready for deployment.
The commander of the missile unit in Kaliningrad, Anatoly Gorodetsky, said that the construction and installation works of the Iskander-M missile systems is “at 100 percent readiness.” The construction work for the supporting infrastructure of the missiles in these regions began in 2016.
An observer of the German Contra Magazin, Ernest Plener, in a recent publication wrote, speaking of the Iskander, that Russia “has a weapon that can easily penetrate the nuclear shield of Europe.” According to the publication, the Iskander-M nuclear missile is capable of flying to Warsaw in two minutes, and to Berlin – in four. The article also notes that there is no Western technology that can intercept Iskander-M:
The Iskander-M is able to hit targets at ranges up to 500 km. The complex includes two types of missiles: ballistic and cruise missiles. It is designed to defeat rocket fire systems, anti-missile and anti-aircraft defense equipment, aircraft and helicopters at airfields, command posts and infrastructure facilities.
