PHOTOS: Kurds in their thousands protest against Turkish-led operations against the YPG in Syria's Afrin

February 4, 2018 - Fort Russ News - Paul Antonopoulos

AFRIN, Syria - Kurdish civilians in the city of Afrin in the northwest Syrian canton of Afrin have come out in their thousands to protest against Turkish-led operations to clear the canton of Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG).

Protesters were seen carrying olive branches, a historical symbol for peace in which the Turkish-led operation is ironically named after; "Olive Branch Operation".

Also seen were large displays of Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), in which the YPG is the Syrian branch of.

The PKK is recognized internationally, including by the US, as a terrorist organization, but Washington hypocritically does not consider the YPG as a terrorist group.

Turkey launched its Olive Branch Operation on January 20 and in over two weeks of fighting have made extremely slow and limited progress against the YPG.
