“Russia is a strategic competitor to the United States in Latin America. Moscow is trying to undermine the interests of the United States in this region,” said the head of the Southern Command of the US Armed Forces, Admiral Kurt Tidd, at a Senate hearing.
According to him, the growing role of Russia in the region is cause for US concern – “given Russia’s cyber and intelligence capabilities.”
“Russia is a strategic rival, which is actively trying to destroy the US partnership relations (with the countries of Latin America – Ed.) And undermine US interests in the region,” Admiral Tidd said.
