The US is worried about the new cruise missiles developed in Russia, said the head of the Northern Command of the US Armed Forces, General Laurie Robinson, during hearings in the Senate. The text of the speech is available on the website of the Armed Services Committee.
“Having at its disposal a complete set of weapons delivery systems to the target, and weapons systems capable of delivering strikes throughout the United States and Canada, Russia remains the only existential threat to the airspace of our two countries,” the text reads.
Robinson noted that the Russian military conduct military exercises, during which they “work out a conflict with the American troops.” He also pointed out that Russia continues to improve its strategic bombers and submarines. According to the general, the modernized fleet can threaten the United States for many years to come.
“Russia has developed new cruise missiles capable of hitting targets from far greater distances than we have seen before,” Robinson said.
Earlier it became known that the administration of Donald Trump is going to allocate more than $ 6.3 billion to the “program of deterring Russia” in Europe, for the 2019 fiscal year. This is 1.7 billion more than this year.
