MOSCOW, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense has revealed the name of the Russian pilot killed yesterday in Syria.
The pilot was Roman Fillipov who was from Crimea and served in the Ukrainian Air Force before swearing his allegiance to Russia after the unification of Crimea with Russia in 2014.
Fillipov was killed yesterday when conducting a mission over the jihadist-held province of Idlib in northwest Syria. His jet was shot out of sky with him parachuting safely to land and near his aircraft.
From there he refused to surrender to terrorist forces and engaged in a gun battle before he was killed. Details of this can be read here.
