The interest of foreigners in tourism in Russia has increased, it was said at the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with the head of the Federal Agency for Tourism Oleg Safonov.
“Despite the sanctions and propaganda toward our country abroad, conducted by politically engaged western media, there has been a surge in interest in Russia from foreign tourists. According to the World Tourism Organization, our country has entered the top five most popular destinations in terms of the number of search queries on the Internet. It is estimated that tourist flow in the first 12 days of January grew by 6-8%, “- said the official.
Additional factors to the increase in foreign travelers is the ability to issue electronic visas to visit the Far East, as well as the introduction of a duty free system in Russia.
