Nobel Prize winner in literature, Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, stated that the political and intellectual impoverishment of the United States under the administration of President Donald Trump will lead to the US abandoning its leading position in the world. He writes in an article by El País, on the subject of the book “Fire and Fury: in the White House of Trump,” warning that this situation can be utilised by Russia and China.
Vargas Llosa believes that the presidential administration consists of politicians, ignoramuses and intriguers fighting for places that the “supreme deity Donald Trump” will bestow. Chaos in the presidential team led to disastrous consequences in the world and domestic policy, the author of the article believes.
The writer calls Trump “the worst character” who, “apparently, has not read a single book in his life.” Vargas Llosa is amazed that one of the first orders of the new president concerned the installation of additional TVs in the White House.
“And although, in my opinion, the picture described by Michael Wolfe is a caricature and an exaggeration, and reading his book is a waste of time, unfortunately, in Trump’s presidency, the above-described takes place partially. The US has probably never been poorer in its history, in terms of politically and intellectually, as much as they have become impoverished under the current administration,” writes Vargas Llosa.
“The consequences are predictable: China and Russia are taking the positions that the US is withdrawing from, gaining political and economic influence in third world countries and in some Eastern European countries – probably this process can not be stopped,” concluded Vlgas Llosa.
The book “Fire and Fury: in Trump’s White House” by Michael Wolff went on sale in January and became a bestseller in the US. The book, in particular, says that Donald Trump did not expect to become president of the United States, his wife Melania was shocked by the prospect of becoming the first lady, and some of Trump’s advisors were concerned about the president’s mental health. The White House categorically denied the contents of the book, and Trump’s personal lawyer sent a letter to the author and publisher with a demand to suspend its publication.
Donald Trump himself stated he has never met with the author, who claims to have interviewed him.
Mario Vargas Llosa is a classic of world literature, one of the creators of the “boom” of Latin American prose along with Julio Cortazar, Jorge Luis Borges and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
