AFRIN, Syria – Turkish President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed claims made by Kurdish activists that eight Turkish soldiers belonging to the elite Mountaineering brigade were killed in the ‘Olive Branch’ operation against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in Afrin canton in Syria’s northwest.
The announcements came hours after the YPG press office released photos showing the bodies and equipment of the elite Turkish soldiers.
Al-Sura news quoted local sources as saying that the YPG is planning further ambushes to kill specifically the elite troops to drain the Turkish force invading the YPG-controlled Afrin canton.
Although the YPG are fighting against the invading Turkish army and their Syrian proxies, they to are engaged in their own dirty game and have kidnapped five Syrian military personnel in Qamishli. Full details can be read here.
It also appears that the YPG are facing a manpower shortage and are relying on child soldiers to fight against ISIS in eastern Syria, with one child tragically being killed. Details of the tragic death can be read here.
