Moscow is negotiating the possibilities of selling the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems to a number of countries in the Middle East and South-East Asia, said the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.

"The relevant negotiation work is under way," the Defense Minister said during a tour of the countries of Southeast Asia, commenting on the export potential of the S-400.

Shoigu noted that two S-400 complexes are deployed today and are on round-the-clock alert duty in Syria, providing "reliable anti-aircraft defense in Khmeimim and Tartous. These are unique complexes with unsurpassed world-class tactical and technical characteristics, as evidenced by the recently concluded contract for the delivery of the S-400 with the Republic of Turkey, a member of NATO," the minister added.

At the end of December, Russia and Turkey signed a loan agreement for the acquisition of the S-400.  At the same time, the parties agreed on technological cooperation for the development of production of anti-aircraft missile systems in Turkey.

On Monday, the Times of India reported with reference to a source in the Ministry of Defense of India that Moscow and Delhi entered the final stage of negotiations on a future contract for the supply of five S-400 battalions. The transaction amount, according to the publication, will be about 390 billion rupees (about 5.5 billion dollars).

The S-400 is the newest anti-aircraft missile system of long range. It is designed to destroy aviation targets, cruise and ballistic missiles, and can also be used against ground targets. The range of the S-400 is 400 kilometers, capable of destroying targets at an altitude of 30 kilometers. It is said to have no analogues elsewhere in the world.
