AFRIN, Syria – The Turkish military along with allied militants have begun the invasion of the Kurdish-held canton of Afrin as Russian personnel withdraw.
Earlier today, a Turkish minister vowed the invasion would begin to defeat the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) that they consider to be the Syrian branch of the Turkey-based Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) that they, and Washington, consider to be a terrorist organization. Full details can be read here.
Although some sources claim the invasion will “officially” begin at 20:00 local time, the Turkish military has already bombarded YPG positions with 12 airstrikes.
Free Syrian Army units are already being relocated and preparing to engage the YPG. Full details can be read here.
In addition, the Turkish military has also bombarded YPG positions with artillery.
