The Russian authorities will not prevent Russian athletes from going to the 2018 Olympics under a neutral status, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
“We, without any doubt, will not declare a boycott, we will not prevent our Olympians from taking part (in the Games), if one of them wants to participate in their personal capacity,” the head of state said.
In addition, he said, “most of the charges are based on facts that have not been proven and are largely unfounded.”
“They are based mainly on the testimony of a person whose moral and ethical attitudes and the mental state of which cause a lot of questions; nothing else is there, “Putin said.
He recalled that in the conclusions of the commission report itself say that Russia has no system of state support for doping. But if this is so, he said, the question arises why “Olympians are forbidden to perform under the Russian flag and Russian symbols, if there is no state support.”
“Punish those individuals who may be guilty. But if there is no state support for doping, then why can we not act under our national symbols? This, of course, will remain a big question, “Putin said.
