CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro released a short video on his Facebook on Thursday donning boxing gloves and showing off some of his training.
He announced in the post that “In the fight for the truth, in the place of Bolívar and Chávez, look what comes out. We put on our gloves and start training for the great victories that we will have in the year 2018.”
His reference comes to the difficult year 2017 was for the socialist Latin American state as the US attempted to orchestrate a so-called color revolution against the democratically elected Maduro.
This included placing sanctions and intentionally undermining food and medicine distribution.
The year saw right-wing mobs violent protest leading to the death of dozens of people, mostly government supporters and security services, in scenes that were reminiscent of Syria in 2011. However, unlike Syria, Venezuela successfully avoided violent protests descending into a civil war.
