By preparing new militant groups in Syria, the US is doing the same thing that it did in its time in Afghanistan. This is the opinion of the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security Franz Klintsevich .
“Almost the same thing, the Americans did in it the 1980s during the Afghan war, preparing terrorists and inciting them against the Soviet Union.”
Today’s Russia, like the Soviet Union 30 years ago, the US consider its main geopolitical opponent, in the fight against which all means are good, the Russian deputy added. President of the United States Donald Trump, according to Klintsevich, is most likely trying to avoid extreme forms of confrontation, but he “is clearly unable to fully change the American political system.”
Earlier, the Russian Center for Reconciliation of Warring Parties in Syria reported that US instructors are training new rebel groups to fight Syrian government forces. According to the Russian military, new armed groups called the “New Syrian Army” are being formed from separate groups of militants led by American instructors from the Special Operations Forces in the training center near the refugee camp at El Hasake.
Russia withdrew a large portion of its forces on December 12th, while in communication with their US counterparts. They reported on the whereabouts of rebels, as seen from aircraft and drones – many of whom moved in the direction of Iraq. “There was no response.” – said President Putin, at his annual Press Conference on December 14th.
