Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, drew attention to the highest level of activity of Russian submarines and pointed to the loss of necessary skills of fighting at sea by the North Atlantic Alliance.
In an interview with Financial Times, The Washington Post and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, NATO Secretary General stated that Russia has invested heavily in its fleet, especially in submarines, and stressed that at present Russian submarines are at the highest level of operation since the Cold War .
Stoltenberg also added that after the Cold War, NATO countries lost their dominant positions at sea. In this regard, he mentioned plans to create new NATO units.
