DAMASCUS, Syria – Russia’s Central Military District Commander Lieutenant General Alexander Lapin said that ISIS are now focusing their forces in Afghanistan after their defeat in Syria.
“The Russian troops together with the Syrian army completed the defeat of the strongest units of the Islamic State [ISIS] in the Middle East,” he said.
“However, it is too early to say that the fight against the global terrorist threat is over. Militants defeated in Syria have been building up their forces in Afghanistan. The enemy is well-trained and motivated, and it should not be underestimated,” Lapin said.
He however made no suggestion that Russia will involve itself in Afghanistan to destroy the terrorist group like it has in Syria.
