The decision of US President Donald Trump on Jerusalem contradicts all relevant international agreements. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference in Vienna.
In turn, the Egyptian ambassador to Austria, Omar Amer Youssef, said at a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE participating states, that Cairo is concerned about the decision of the United States. In his opinion, this could lead to negative consequences for the peace process between Israel and Palestine and “inflame the feelings of Arabs and Muslim peoples.” He expressed support and solidarity “with the just cause of Palestine and the Palestinian people. The Egyptian ambassador stressed that any actions leading to “changing the status quo in the city” are unacceptable.
On Wednesday, Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and signed a document on the transfer of the American embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This led to clashes between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in the West Bank. In the course of the riots, 50 people were injured. The head of Hamas announced the beginning of the third intifada against Israel.
