ALEPPO, Syria – Reports have emerged that Russia plans to open the road between Aleppo and Gaziantep.
The road is reportedly to be used only for civilian purposes and will be under the protection of the Russian Military Police.
The two cities are only 97km apart, with Aleppo being Syria’s largest city the country’s economic and industrial hub. Gaziantep is one Turkey’s largest city and currently hosts thousands of Syrian refugees.
The trade route between the two cities was once thriving before the war against Syria began in 2011.
