The new leader of the LPR, Leonid Pasechnik, will be guided by the interests of the people and will lead the Donbass toward Russia. Anatoly Vasserman, political scientist and publicist, said on the air of the channel Red Line, reports the Novorossiya Information Agency.
According to him, the previous head of the LPR Igor Plotnitsky was “a typical representative of those who serve the interests of the oligarchs,” while Leonid Pasechnik, who now heads the Republic, will represent the interests of the people more.
“Now, after such a sharp change of leadership, the next leader, unlike Plotnitsky, will most likely take to heart the interests of the republic and the region as a whole, since now a significant part of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions is occupied by Kiev terrorists, and, I think, he will take the interests of Donbass as a whole closer to the heart, and I recall that there were three regions – Donetsk, Lugansk and Rostov. initially forming a single production complex, and even when Ukraine was cut off from the rest of Russia, it was not possible for Kiev to break these internal Donbass connections,” said Wasserman.
At the same time, he noted that the LPR and the DPR are only a small part of the all-Russian economic complex, and in the long term, the whole of Ukraine must inevitably return to the bosom of Russia.
“Of course, the entirety of Donbass as a whole, all these three areas, are only a very small part of the all-Russian economy. As far as I can judge, it is unlikely to approximate Russia – there will not be enough economic independence, and, therefore, there will not be enough political. I hope that, eventually, the whole of Ukraine will return to Russia, but I’m afraid that this will happen very slowly,” the expert said.
