US President Donald Trump believes that he needs to work with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on crucial issues, said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders.

“Look, the president will not beat around the bush about the fact that he needs to work with this world leader and he wants to work with him on the serious challenges that our country faces right now,” she answered during a briefing on the journalist’s question whether cooperation between Russia and the United States is possible, and whether Trump really believes in Putin’s assurances that Russia has not interfered in the course of the election campaign in the United States.

According to the representative of the White House, Trump believes that Washington has to have areas of cooperation with Moscow. “In particular, this applies to Syria and the DPRK, as well as other major global issues,” she said. The president “continues to look for ways (of cooperation with Russia) that will help America,” she added.

Putin and Trump talked several times on the margins of the APEC summit in Vietnam, after endorsing a joint statement on Syria. At the press conference, the Russian president said that in general, they had discussed everything they wanted, but “we must also find ways or the two countries’ teams and, at the level of the presidents, to sit down and talk about the whole complex of relations. ” In turn, the American leader said that he expected “to hold a meeting with his Russian counterpart on the DPRK in the future,” and also spoke for friendly relations with Moscow.
