MOSCOW, Russia. Press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, has spoken about the situation with the organisation of a bilateral meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump, which never took place in Vietnam. The spokesman for the Russian leader and the United States were trying to agree on such a meeting, but offered a time and place that only they were satisfied with.
“The only time proposed was that which suited the American side, and offered one place – a room that was rented by the Americans,” he said. Peskov said the meeting in Hamburg was held on American territory, and, by diplomatic protocol, this time the meeting was to take place on Russian territory.
“The Americans showed no flexibility, and unfortunately no other alternative offers were provided, so the meeting could not take place,” Putin’s press secretary added.
Nevertheless, the leaders of the two countries held a number of talks at the APEC summit. As Peskov said, during these talks Putin again rejected the possibility of Moscow’s interference in the US presidential election.
