Russian President Vladimir Putin explained that his meeting with US President Donald Trump, on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam, did not take place because of inconsistencies in diplomatic protocol. At the same time, he promised that the members of the team responsible for this will be punished.
“This was due to the schedule of Mr. Trump’s work, and with my schedule, and with certain protocol formalities, which unfortunately our teams were not able to cope with, ” Interfax quoted Putin as saying. “Well, they will be punished for this.”
This was said ‘tongue in cheek’ – the President of the Russian Federation also stated that nothing terrible has happened.
“We talked during today’s meeting, we talked, in general, everything we wanted, we discussed,” Putin said.
