The delegation of the Senate of the State of New York was struck by the pace of development of Moscow during their visit, as stated by the head of the department of foreign economic and international relations of the Russian capital, Sergei Cheremin.
“The delegates highly appreciated the quality of life in Moscow and the modernization program, they were amazed at the speed at which the Moscow metro is being up-built, the cleanliness of the streets of Moscow and the ecological cleanliness of the city, ” Cheremin said.
The delegation paid special attention to security in the Russian capital too, he said.
“Our American colleagues were extremely surprised that with a budget smaller than that of New York, we manage to do several times more for the development of the city than they do,” Cheremin added.
New York totals a population of 8.5 million people, while Moscow is 11.9 million (albeit with illegal immigration, some unofficial estimates are up to 18 million.)
