The Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil has announced his staunch opposition to formally establish camps for the Syrian refugees in Lebanon, especially because the Syrian crisis is coming to an end.

During his tour of the Western Bekaa District on Sunday, Bassil touched a number of issues, the most controversial one of them being the Syrian refugees.

He said he would prefer the refugees to return to their homeland now that the conflict is nearing its end.

“Yes, we are racist Lebanese and at the same time we are open to the world and no one has the right to lecture us about being humanitarian”, Bassil said.

“As regards being humanitarian and respecting the international law, we are among the world’s top and no human rights organization has the right to lecture us about being humanitarian”, he aded.

Since the outbreak of war in Syria, Lebanon has received more than one million refugees. Majority of them live in informal camps, where circumstances are often difficult.
