Trump is asked to send the US Navy to the Sea of Azov
The president of the United States was called upon to show his commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and integrity and to the freedom of navigation. According to Stephen Blank of the American Council on Foreign Policy, this could be achieved by sending military ships to the Sea of Azov.
In an article published on the pages of the Atlantic Council, the expert proposes to have the US Navy sail through the Kerch Strait.
Shipping is now stopped due to the construction of a bridge that will connect the Crimean peninsula with the main part of the country. The closure of the strait has paralyzed the work of two strategically important ports of Ukraine: Mariupol and Berdyansk, as well as the northern coast of the Sea of Azov, from where Kiev exports steel to the west.
“Russia has not only once again created a threat to Ukraine, but also demonstrated its disregard for President Donald Trump personally,” the author is convinced. He emphasizes that until recently Russia was ready to discuss ways to resolve the situation in Ukraine, but suddenly “illegally” closed the Kerch Strait “allegedly” for technical reasons.
