Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov has revealed at a meeting of the UN Security Council, during which a resolution on investigating ISIS crimes in Iraq was passed, that his country is ready to assist Iraq in its fight against the terrorist outfit.
“We are confident that ISIS terrorists’ crimes should not remain unpunished, no matter where they are committed,” Gatilov said.
“We welcome the success that the Iraqi armed forces have achieved in the fight against the ISIS, as well as steps to restore the country’s sovereignty,” the senior Russian diplomat pointed out.
“We are ready to continue providing political and practical support to the Iraqi leadership,” he added.
Russia since September 2015 has successfully assisted pro-Syrian government forces in their fight against not only ISIS, but other terrorist groups operating in the country.
