The US military officials have made an official announcement that searching for three missing marines, who disappeared after a US military plane crashed off the coast of Australia on Saturday, is now over.

Yesterday, The US Army MV-22 Osprey aircraft crashed into the sea after taking off from the USS Bonhomme Richard LHD-6.

23 marines were rescued right afterwards, while the three others went missing.

Immediately afterwards, the US military opened an investigation into the cause of the accident, in addition to beginning a wide-scale search to find the three missing marines.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the US Army said the search for missing marines is now over, and that a recovery effort to retrieve the bodies was launched by the US Navy and Marine Corps, instead.

The aircraft was in Australia for a joint military training exercise held by the U.S. and Australia last month in Shoalwater Bay in Queensland state. The Talisman Sabre exercise, a biennial event between the two nations, involved more than 30,000 troops and 200 aircraft.
