A Krasnodar region organization “Center for Regional Development” has won a presidential grant for the implementation of the social program “Repatriation of Refugees to Donbass”. The amount of the grant was 471 thousand rubles. ($78,000 USD)
The project, which will be implemented on the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as the territories of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions; it provides for assistance in the return of the original inhabitants of Donbass to their homeland, including job placement assistance.
As follows from the information on the project on the website of the Foundation for Presidential Grants, the program aims to provide assistance to residents of the Donetsk and Lugansk Regions affected by the conflict in Ukraine.
“Many of these refugees consider their location outside the region as a temporary measure, staying there in a marginal position of discomfort and psychological stress” – claim the authors of the program.
In their view, most of the settlers are ready to return to their homeland if they are provided with work and shelter in safe areas.
“The prolonged stay of refugees in Russia and their subsequent return to Donbass will facilitate the transfer of advanced socio-cultural and professional practices received by them during the period of forced absence.” – said in the organization.
In 2015 – a UN report found that Russia, not European countries, was leading by the amount of refugees taken in per year. The conflict coincided with the refugee crisis from the Middle East and Africa into Europe. The figure was over 2 million East Ukrainian citizens fleeing the height of the conflict in the Donbass. This report didn’t make many mainstream news outlets, given it made no sense as to why Ukrainians would run ‘to the aggressor country. ‘
