The US will continue to support Kiev, and sanctions against Russia will remain in full force, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated, after the meeting the Foreign Minister Pavel Klimkin and US State Secretary Rex Tillerson.
It is noted that “consistent US practical support has allowed Ukraine to make significant progress in the complex socio-economic transformation and reform of the security and defense sector.”
Klimkin and Tillerson agreed to prepare a meeting of the presidents of both countries to discuss concerns both leaders have.
A State Department official confirmed to reporters that Secretary of State assured the Ukrainian Minister’s intention to maintain the United States support of the Kiev Junta.
Klimkin appeared on March 6-7, at a working visit to Washington, where he was scheduled to meet with representatives of the Trump administration and the US Congress. The visit of the Foreign Minister of Ukraine to the United States was the first since the inauguration of President Donald Trump and his first meeting with Tillerson.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said he was pleased to establish a dialogue with the Trump administration.
