Poroshenko calls for complete transport blockade against Donbass
The President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, has proposed to the National Defense and Security Council (NSDC) a compete stop to the transport connection with the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR) until the enterprises located in their territories are returned to Ukrainian jurisdiction. The video of the speech on Wednesday, March 15, was published on the website of the head of state.
“I suggest that the NSDC take a decision to temporarily stop the transport, and not only the railway, but also communications with the occupied territory. It will operate until the occupants return the stolen Ukrainian enterprises to the jurisdiction of Ukraine,” RIA Novosti quotes Poroshenko as saying. The head of state added that humanitarian supplies would be the exception.
The President of Ukraine stressed that the enterprises that agreed to work on the terms proposed by the DPR and the LPR will be subject to sanctions. “Some of the owners, to give them their due, have turned down the production. But those who continue, of course, should not expect to sell any goods in Ukraine,” he said.
On March 1, it became known that the authorities of the Donesk Peoples Republic Republic and the Lugansk Peoples Republic introduced external management of the Ukrainian enterprises located on their territory. The day before, the leaders of the republics, Alexander Zakharchenko and Igor Plotnitsky, made a demand to stop the trade blockade of the Donbass.
