“Not every cat is a lion”: Shoigu shoots down UK’s “bear paws” comment

February 21, 2017 – Fort Russ News –

RIA Novosti – translated by J. Arnoldski –

The Minister of Defense of Russia, Sergey Shoigu, has commented on his British counterpart Michael Fallon’s statement that the West does not want “the bear sticking its paws in Libya.” In Shoigu’s words, it is unlikely that “an animal has grown in their zoo which can order around a bear.”

Shoigu said with a smile in response to the questions of students at Moscow’s State Institute of International Relations: “If we continue the ‘animal’ topic, then what do they have on their coat of arms, a lion, was it? There is an old proverb: all lions are cats but not all cats are lions. Let everyone handle his own fairs on his own. And we do not think that an animal has grown in their zoo which can order around a bear.”

Earlier, Fallon had stated that the West is not satisfied by Russia’s contact with Libya. According to the British minister, Moscow is “testing the West, testing the alliance.”

“We do not want the bear sticking its paws there,” Fallon is quoted as saying at the Munich security conference.
