Moscow is changing. New residential quarters, squares, streets, highways, subway stations … Everywhere you look, something is being built, demolished, rebuilt. One change is to your liking. The main architectural project of this decade, of course, is Zariadye Park. At the site of the demolished hotel “Russia” will be an unusual architectural and landscape space. The concept is the principle of natural urbanism. In the urban historical buildings and pedestrian areas there will be an entry to four typical Russian landscape zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and wet meadows. These four terraces, as natural images of Russia, will descend from the north-east to south-west – on Varvarka street to the Moscow River.
Above Zariadye a dome area will be erected, about one hectare covered with solar panels, which will create a special microclimate in different parts of the park. Also at the park taking up 13 acres a media center will be housed, an ice cave, underground parking, and the Philharmonic. According to the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov, the diversity of the country will be represented in the park: the climate, nature, people, cooking, everything – down to the smells and sounds.
“Zariadye” will be the first major park built in Moscow in the last 50 years. It will open in 2017, to mark the 870th anniversary of the city.
Yesterday’s industrial zone, according to the development plan, will be transformed into a mini-city of the 21st century. Here, covering about 400 hectares will be residential areas, business and leisure centers, parks, a sports cluster, and has its own autonomous educational area, and as a tribute to history, to continue the production of cars.
