The development of the situation surrounding Ukrainian saboteurs’ attempt to break across into Crimea depends on the positions of France and Germany on this issue. This was stated by the former head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Defense and communist Georgy Kryuchkov.
“Any turn in events itself is very dangerous. The Minsk process has stalled and there are no practical results. What is important is how Europe will behave. If Germany and France continue to put pressure on Ukraine, then the current tension can be overcome without any bloody events. But if they change their position, then things could be bad,” he believes.
In addition, Kryuchkov is convinced that, given current circumstances, Russia is not going to use the occasion for waging war. Rather, it is Ukraine that aspires for such.
“I don’t think that the Russian side will use the occasion for an outbreak of war. It is the Ukrainian side that is engaged in aggression. We can also see that Ukraine has not consented to the new Russian ambassador assuming his duties. We will find out what Russia will do further soon enough. Perhaps there will be other statements. But they will not opt for any kind of responsive operations,” the former MP stated.
