Law enforcement officers have arrested the Deputy Health Minister of Ukraine for taking a large bribe. This was reported by the press-service of the capital’s general prosecutor.
“According to the Prosecutor of Kiev, Roman Godva, last night a long anti-corruption operation exposing systemic corruption involving a senior official of the Ministry of Health ended. The investigative management of the prosecutor’s office, jointly with employees of the Security Service of Ukraine, arrested the deputy minister ‘hot,’” the report reads.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the official “created a system of taking bribes from practicing doctors in order to let them fulfill their duties in the future properly, in particular doing operations in the Alexander Hospital in Kiev.”
“The Deputy Minister and his accomplice are now arrested on suspicion of committing a criminal offensive under the ‘extortion of bribes by an official’ article of the Criminal Code,” the press-service remarked.
According to media reports, nearly 187,000 hryvnia ($7.5 thousand), 45.6 thousand dollars, and 2.5 thousand euros were seized from the deputy minister.
The prosecutors did not mention the name of the other detainee. The Minister of Health now currently has two deputies, TASS reports.
