Andrey Kochetov, representative of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Lugansk People’s Republic, met today with his Italian colleagues in the national office of the Central Trade Union of Italy (USB).

The union is a member of the World Federation of Trade Unions and has more than 480,000 members from different industries.

The meeting was attended by around 50 people, including representatives of the central and regional offices of the union, as well as independent journalists, in particular one of the most famous Italian journalists Fabrizzio Poggi.

The meeting included the showing of a film on events in Donbass, after which Andrey Kochetov spoke on the situation in the LPR and the activities of the LPR’s Trade Union Federation. The meeting continued with discussion in a Q&A format.

Italian colleagues expressed the desire to learn more about the truth of what is happening in the LPR, Donbass, and break the information blockade created by the EU.

Upon learning of LPR labor collectives’ collection of signatures for an appeal to the UN Security Council with the demand that Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko be compelled to fulfill the Minsk Agreements, Italian national trade union secretary Paolo Leonardi offered to support this initiative and prepare an appeal to the UN Secretary General on behalf of the trade union and send a letter to the LPR Federation of Trade Unions.

All of the participants of the meeting were given St. George ribbons as a symbol of the struggle of the people of Lugansk against the neo-fascist regime in Kiev. Italian colleagues proudly pinned the ribbons on them as a sign of solidarity with the working people of the LPR.

Italian colleagues were also informed about the forthcoming preliminary vote in the LPR and the head of the republic’s call for international observers to participate.
