Europe must abandon sanctions against Russia, as such “draconian” measures harm foreign relations, the economy, and the fight against terrorism. This was the conclusion reached by experts during the round table “Time for the lifting of the EU anti-Russian sanctions”, which took place in Brussels.
“I think we should think about how they harm relations between our countries, and hinder the fight against international terrorism. These sanctions affect the life of each of us. We need to find more effective ways to cooperate and become stronger together to stabilize the situation in the world,” quotes NTV, President of the association Democrat Youth Community of Europe Javier Hurtado Mira.
Earlier, the European Union extended economic sanctions against Russia until the 31st of January 2017. The decision was taken unanimously by written procedure of approval.
The United States went even further, and on 14th July, the committee of the house of Congress on Foreign Affairs approved a bill aimed at toughening anti-Russian sanctions.
“The Committee approved a bill on “stability and democracy in Ukraine”, which aims to deter and repel Russian aggression in Ukraine, and also to assist in the democratic transformation of the country,” informs RIA Novosti.
The bill specifically prohibits the American government from “taking any action that implies the recognition of Crimea as part of the Russian Federation.
