“I urge in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy spirit on May 9th for all to come out for processions, rallies, and marches dedicated to Victory Day,” the statement said. “Take portraits of the Generals who won the war, portraits of fathers and grandfathers who died at the front or in the rear, laboring in fields and factories, or died after the war”.
The Union of Orthodox brotherhoods of Ukraine (UOBU) also calls for “wives, husbands, children, grandparents, neighbors, and friends” to take part in the planned activities in Ukrainian settlements. “Come out this day and show someone your heroes and heirs. Remember that people not honoring their heroes and their victories are not worthy of living on this earth, and their name should be erased from the book of life in heaven and on earth!”
“Be men, be Orthodox, be worthy of the great victory!”, members of the brotherhood appealed to the citizens of Ukraine.
The Chairman of the UOBU Valentin Lukiyanik, as the head of the Kiev brotherhood, will participate in the events scheduled in the capital of present-day Ukraine.
The meeting time is 10.00 AM at the Uspensky Cathedral of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Then the procession will go to the monument of Glory, where there will be a memorial service for all the victims and deceased war veterans, as well as a prayer for the living veterans.
UOBU also intends to ask the Metropolitan of Kiev Onufriy to bless the participation of priests in the events in a special rank of thanksgiving service for victory over the Germans and their allies, just as after the Patriotic war of 1812 all the churches committed special thanksgiving services for the victory over the Gauls, and twenty nations with them”.
