While congratulating the country’s residents on Easter, Ukrainian President Petr Poroshenko compared Ukraine to Jesus Christ. The head of state noted that it is as if Ukraine, like Christ, “has been resurrected.” This was reported by RT citing Ukrainian television channels.
“Faced with crucifixion, Jesus appeared to be weak in front of his persecutors, but in fact he was strong in faith and unconquerable in spirit. He was truth because, having overcome death, he defeated evil. Two years ago, Ukraine was weak and exhausted. But now it is as if it has been resurrected,” Poroshenko remarked.
“And just as how the triumphant spread of faith in Christ began after his resurrection, so is confidence in Ukraine’s advance into the future unfolding before our very eyes,” the head of state added.
On April 29th, Poroshenko stated that celebrating Easter would be a “test for Russia in its belonging to Christian civilization.”
