Newest Russian Mi-28N & Ka-52 Helicopters Spotted in Syria

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has transferred the latest combat helicopters Mi-28N and Ka-52 to Syria. This is evidenced by video recordings by the TV channel "Zvezda" and the agency Reuters, which was filmed at the Khmeimim airbase.

The Mi-28N helicopter is seen flying over the airbase at around 15 seconds in the video filmed by Reuters. Ka-52 is seen at the beginning of the "Zvezda" video in the background of the su-24 front-line bomber. Ka-52 is without blades, which probably suggests that it was only recently transferred to the base by military transport aircraft.

Previously, the Russian airforce used only the Mi-24 and Mi-35 military helicopters in Syria. At the same time, the Mi-28N, known as the "Night hunter", is used by the Iraq air force against terrorists.

President Vladimir Putin, on the evening of March 14th, gave the order to withdraw the basic part of Russian military contingent from Syria. According to the President, this is due to the fact that the military has completed almost all the tasks set beforehand.

Later, the Defense Ministry reported that the Russian aircraft will continue to strike terrorists in Syria. According to media reports, the front-line squadron of su-24 bombers will remain at the Khmeimim airbase, but also fighter jets and helicopters.

Russia deployed a group of aircraft and supporting units to Syria on the 30th September 2015, where the aircraft were involved in airstrikes on radical Islamist groups. The basis for this operation was an official request for military assistance  by the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad.
