The general director of “Hermitage” Mikhail Piotrovsky said that much of structures destroyed by militants in Palmyra can and must be restored by UNESCO and Russian experts. He came to this conclusion by analyzing the images of the ruins of the ancient Syrian city.

“These photos show that it is possible to do the reconstruction, although the damage is enormous and there are irreparable temples, but there is an opportunity for restoration work. It is a great symbol, which needs to be restored”, — quotes the words of Piotrovsky RIA Novosti.

The assault on Palmyra was launched on March 24. During this time, troops and militias were able to liberate a few buildings from the terrorists and push them to the center of the city.

Military experts say that the capture of the city will open the road to Raqqah and will contribute to the establishment of control of the border with Iraq.
